VIDEO Pensioners at todays protest believe the worst is yet to come

first_imgWHY DID THOUSANDS of pensioners turn out to a protest today outside Leinster House?Organised by the Irish Senior Citizens Parliament (ISCP), those in attendance each had their own reason for turning out to the demonstration, but the main aim was to oppose measures introduced in Budget 2014 which affect the elderly.Hear their reasons for turning out, and their views on the cuts, below:Speaking after the main demonstration, CEO of the ISCP Mairead Hayes said she hoped that the cuts might be looked at again “in the cold light of day”.“We can understand that [the government] might be standing firm right not against any kind of pressure,” Hayes said, “but we’re not going to go away — as long as we live anyway”.A group of almost a hundred people, many with signage from various organisations and one man carrying a Starry Plough flag, broke away from the main protest and moved through Trinity College Dublin, to the Spire on O’Connell Street, and back to Leinster House.When asked by TheJournal.ie in the video below what group they represent, two men at the front of the crowd answered “the people of Ireland”.
